The old flow asked too much of the person doing the split. Amount entry was easy to get wrong, especially around negative values and the live difference calculation. Date and spread options also added extra decisions for a task that should stay lightweight.

The old flow asked too much of the person doing the split. Amount entry was easy to get wrong, especially around negative values and the live difference calculation. Date and spread options also added extra decisions for a task that should stay lightweight.

For expenses, split amounts needed to stay negative. But most users typed $50 instead of
–$50 because the sign requirement wasn’t obvious.

Now the input starts with the correct sign automatically.

If the field is empty and you hit backspace, the sign disappears.

Press '-' while typing and it comes back. Even if you select all and delete, we preserve the sign.

We also added a “Remaining” option.

Once you fill the first amount, the next cell can calculate the rest.

Our first accounting date picker showed a list of suggested actions. Useful, but slower because you had to read through options first.

Most people either want to shift the accounting date by a month or pick an exact date.

So now the picker has two paths: use the stepper to move 1 month backward or forward, or open the calendar for a specific date.

Only required cells show placeholder text. Optional cells stay empty unless you edit them.
